Patch Management with PatchQuest mainly involves a few simple steps outlined here. All these can be carried out via the web-interface.
System Addition - involves inclusion of the machines present in your enterprise (the servers, workstations, laptops and others) into the PatchQuest enterprise setup for patch management. Here, you will need to provide security access credentials to add and scan machines and deploy to patches.
Downloading and installing agents (optional) - If you wish to use the agent-based approach, you will need to download and install PatchQuest agents in the desired target machines.
Vulnerability Scan or Assessment - involves performing a scan on the desired machines to check for missing and available patches and service packs (for Microsoft products)
Patch Download and Deployment - involves selecting the relevant patches/service packs for deployment into the target machines.
Some other steps to be followed include :
Configuring settings like mail-server, proxy server parameters etc. to ensure smooth functioning of PatchQuest
Updating the vulnerability database, to be in sync with the latest patch information from the AdventNet website
Setting global credentials by supplying username and password that can be applied commonly across a group of machines (optional)
Follow the instructions given in the "Before you start" section before proceeding to work with PatchQuest.
