Set Global Credentials

What are global credentials ?

Any username/password combination that can be applied to a number of machines can be pre-configured and stored in the PatchQuest system. This credential will be used to login and identify the type of machines, and to perform various patch management operations.

Why use this option ?

The main purpose is to reuse a pre-defined username and password combination when adding systems. It also serves as a common, global login info configuration for select machine groups, done one-time.

For example, let us say, all the Windows machines in a domain called 'Workgroup' in your enterprise require the same username and password combo to login. You can create a global credential called Workgroup and store this detail. While adding machines that you know are a part of the Workgroup, instead of manually keying in the username and password each time, you can just select 'Workgroup' from the list of pre-configured credentials.

How do I add global credentials ?

From the web-interface, visit : Settings tab » Global Credentials link. The global credential configuration screen is displayed. This screen is classified based on the operating system names, namely Linux and Windows and presents a table listing all the configured credentials.

How do I set global credentials ?

When adding systems to the setup, you will need to provide the username and password of the machines to enable login access. If you have configured a set of global credentials, you can select from the list and choose your preference. This ensures uniform application of the username/password combination for a select category of machines as well as eliminates the redundancy in typing out the details for each system.
