Scanning Computers

Scanning the added systems for vulnerability information, missing and available patches is the next step in the patch management process using PatchQuest. Scanning can commence once the systems have been 'added' to the setup.

From the Systems views or System Group views, select the machines to be scanned using the checkbox in the table and then click the 'Scan' button, to take you to the Scan configuration screen.

Apart from individual systems, the entire system group can be scanned at one go. Visit any of the Systems views or the System Group views and click on the 'Scan All' button on the top of the screen

Scanning

There are two types of scans that can be performed from this screen :

Updating vulnerability database during scan

If you wish to update the vulnerability database before performing the scan, such that the patch information in your PatchQuest server databases is always in sync with the latest patch information, you can select 'Update Database' checkbox. This step is advisable for scheduled scans.

E-mailing scan status

The status of the scanning can be intimated by e-mail to any e-mail address (ideally the administrator's e-mail ID) that is configured here. Enter any number of e-mail addresses in the text-field provided; separated by comma. A report will be sent to those IDs when the scan task is completed.
