Computers belonging to a specific category, can be grouped together to represent a smaller view of your network, so that they can be managed effectively. Each custom machine group will be represented by a name, and all patch management operations like adding systems, scanning for vulnerabilities, deploying patches etc. can be done for this group.
For example, say you want to manage all the mobile computers (laptops) in your enterprise. You can create a group called 'Laptops' and associate all the laptop computers. From the custom group view 'Laptops' you can manage the mobile computers. You can also have a global credential set for this group.
By default, the PatchQuest setup has four pre-defined groups namely : All Systems, Windows and Red Hat and Debian. Apart from these, you can create your own machine groups. Follow these topics to work with Custom Machine Groups :
